Our Site Visit - Part 2

Even though we were still about 2 years out when I went for my site visit with DFTW, I never for a second felt like our consultant, Joe, was bothered by it. I know there are some people who plan a wedding in a year or less, and the average engagement length seems to fall around 15 to 18 months, but this just wasn't going to work for us.

We arrived at Franck's early in the morning and took a look around the inside. It was empty except for another couple who came in shortly after us, however the lady behind the front counter told us we couldn't sit anywhere because all of the spaces were booked for meetings (meetings consisting of invisible people at that point I guess). The poor couple in there made the mistake of trying to sit down, and were promptly told that they couldn't.

Soon enough, it was time to meet Joe. Let me just say how impressed with him I am…he helped develop the Cruise Collection weddings and DFTW sends him all over the world gathering and spreading wedding info. He got to go to Disney in Tokyo and on a preview sailing of the Dream. Also, they send him to wedding shows all around the country. He was very, very knowledgeable, and I found him answering a lot of my questions before I even had the opportunity to ask them.
We sat down in one of the private rooms. He handed us some folders with the new menus (valid through September 2011) and some basic info on outside vendors, timelines, sample pricing, FAQs, etc. I was most excited to see the new menus. They’ve even updated their offerings to have what I call “Midnight Snacks” and what they call “After Hour Options” These include things like:
  • -mini sliders, fries, and milkshake ($26 per person)
  • -“Late Night Farewell Temptations" (milk and big cookies) ($12 per person)
  • -Chocolate Shots ($14 per guest)
  • And a few other things
He went over the info in the folder, then it was off to see the locations! He asked if I had seen the Wedding Pavilion before, and I said no and we could take a look even though I’m not really that interested in it. It was nice, just not my style. I think my Mom would prefer that we have it here, just because it is indoors and safer if it were to rain. After that, we hopped in the car and headed over to the Boardwalk!
First, we took a walk over to Sea Breeze Point, where someone was having their rehearsal. I didn’t take any pictures because I wanted to go back later around 5 to get pictures of what will be our likely ceremony time. I asked what kind of transportation options there were for people who couldn’t walk well, and he said just wheelchairs really. We talked a little about entrance options, and he said that most brides are entering through the center (which makes for a very short walk). He said when SBP first was built, there were shrubs in the front so you couldn’t enter that way, which is why you see the 2 long walkways on either side. Some people still use those to enter. We talked a little about staged exits (FYI: it was a "no" to an exit with sparklers. They are not allowed).

We then walked down to ADH, where a private event was being set up. There was a golf tournament sponsored by Children’s Miracle Network while we were there, so I think this may have been a part of it. We walked upstairs (there are also elevators) to the pre-reception area. (A note to my Non-Disney Bride readers - pre-reception is basically another word for cocktail hour).

These are the doors to the balcony, with a view of Sea Breeze Point in the distance.
Here is a shot out on the balcony. I was wondering how many people this could hold, and the answer is a lot! The balcony was HUGE! It was the entire length of Atlantic Dance Hall, and about 8 feet deep. We could fit our entire wedding and then some out there! I should’ve gotten a full length shot so you could see. You can see the finale of Illuminations from there.

An aerial shot of the first floor.
I absolutely loved the ceiling! It probably looks 10 times nicer at night. There are twinkling LED lights up there!

We went back to Franck's to look at some more pictures, discuss our rehearsal dinner and welcome party options, and then we were pencilled in for our preferred times and locations!
